Ohio Governor DeWine Signs Executive Order for Upcoming Solar Eclipse

Governor Prepares Ohioans for August 21st Eclipse

Order Activates Ohio Emergency Operations Center

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Governor Mike DeWine announced today that he has signed Executive Order 2024-04D to ensure Ohioans are prepared for the upcoming solar eclipse on August 21, 2024.

The order activates the Ohio Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate state agency efforts and support local governments and emergency responders during the eclipse.

"This eclipse is a historic event, and we want to ensure that all Ohioans have a safe and enjoyable experience," said Governor DeWine. "This executive order will help us coordinate our efforts and provide the necessary resources to support our communities."

The total solar eclipse will be visible in Ohio from 1:28 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on August 21st. The path of totality, where the moon completely blocks the sun, will cross the state from northwest to southeast, beginning in Van Wert County and ending in Monroe County.

The EOC will coordinate state agency efforts to ensure that essential services, such as transportation, communications, and healthcare, are maintained during the eclipse.

The order also directs state agencies to work with local governments and emergency responders to develop and implement plans for managing traffic, crowd control, and other potential hazards.

"We encourage all Ohioans to plan ahead for the eclipse," said Governor DeWine. "Be sure to check local advisories and follow the instructions of law enforcement and emergency responders."
